Syria’s Electronic Army: ‘We care about our country’

We do care about what is happening to our country, a member of Syria’s Electronic Army has told the Voice of Russia. The Syrian Electronic Army is a hacker group who has allegedly downed 50 state-run Israeli websites.

The SEA activist told the VoR journalist on conditions of anonymity the hacker attack came in response to the Israeli air strike against a scientific research center near Damascus. This was confirmed by Israel’s Yediot Aharonot daily.

According to the paper, the hacktivists are linked with the Syrian government. The source told the VoR similar counter-attacks had been made against Qatar, the Saudi Arabia, Turkey and other countries who were waging a war against Syria.

The group claimed responsibility for its cyber attacks by replacing the front pages of the websites with their own logo. In case of Israeli pages, the logo was amplified by a demand to stop anti- Syrian hostilities.

“Like all Syrian people, we are living under pressure 24/7, and we want to put an end to it,” the SEA member said. “We are also trying to counter anti-Syria propaganda by telling people around the world, mostly Arabs, what is really going on in our country. We upload photos and dates of what’s happening here to the web,” he added.

“As for our plans, we don’t have anything to hide. Just wait and see,” the Syrian hacker said.
