UN worried over the presence of Syrian troops and rebel forces in Golan Heights
The UN Security Council has expressed concern over the presence of Syrian troops and armed opposition supporters in the demilitarized zone in the Golan Heights.
The council agreed with Russia’s Permanent Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin that it poses danger to the UN staff in the area. In early March, Syrian opposition militants captured more than 20 UN servicemen in the Golan Heights. The Security Council urged both sides to respect the safety and freedom of movement of the peacekeepers.
