Syrian helicopter bombs house near Lebanese border

DAMASCUS, April 3 (Xinhua) -- A Syrian helicopter gunship on Wednesday fired a rocket against a house in Arsal village on the Lebanese-Syrian border, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency said, reporting no casualties.

The agency said the rocket hit the house of al-Awad family in Arsal but caused only material losses. The report gave no further details and could not be confirmed by any Syrian sources.

The village of Arsal, located on Lebanese northeastern border, has emerged as a conduit for arms trafficking and a stronghold for rebels who enter Syria to join the fight against the government troops.

Last month, Syrian foreign ministry stressed that the army was showing "the highest level of self- restraint" in refraining from striking the rebels' positions in the border areas on the Lebanese side.
