BEIRUT, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Miqati said Saturday that "directions have been given to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to deal with the Syrian violations appropriately," reiterating his calls for all parties to commit to disassociating from the Syrian crisis.

Miqati said following a meeting with LAF Commander General Jean Qahwaji that "all parties in the country should commit to the dissociation policy and spare Lebanon any repercussions to the ongoing Syrian crisis."

"The Lebanese government must give the situation on the Lebanese-Syrian border extreme attention," he stressed.

The prime minister meanwhile said Lebanon had received a letter from the Syrian Foreign Ministry which stated that the Syrian authorities "are keen on maintaining good relations between the two countries and dealing with the violations in order to preserve their common interests."

Lebanon's border regions with Syria have experienced repeated violations, including shellings, gunfire and limited incursions from the Syrian side.
